2014 New York State Tree Climbing Championship
Greenpoint Tree Service was proud to participate in the 2014 NYS Tree Climbing Championship. The NYS Tree Climbing Competition is a gathering of the top tree workers in New York who put their tree climbing skills and abilities to the test in a series of competitive events. For additional information and pictures from the event please visit NYSArborists.com. Below is a brief overview of the event.
Under a crystal clear blue sky and warm temperatures, 20 climbers and a large contingent of volunteers, judges and technicians gathered at the Planting Fields Historic State Park in Oyster Bay for the 2014 Tree Climbing Championship. Climbers competed in five events – the Work Climb, Aerial Rescue, Throwline, Belayed Speed Climb and Secured Footlock. They were judged on their skill, speed and precision.

Many of our volunteers, including Larry Torpy, a former TCC Committee Chair of the Midwestern ISA Chapter, gave their time to help prepare the course, inspect the gear and score the events. Many were past tree climbing championship competitors. We extend our thanks to all of those volunteers who set up the event, donated equipment, assisted with tabulating the scores and sold refreshments. Your collective efforts made the 2014 New York State Tree Climbing Championship a great success.
